OFFICE SPACE

WHAT?

Office Space

WHERE?

Doha, Qatar

The office lounge area, kitchen, and dining space are re-designed in the De Stijl style. The site, located in ConocoPhillips Doha, is an open floor plan that provides comfort, increases productivity, and reduces stress. By incorporating De Stijl’s manifesto of using primary colors and horizontal and vertical planes, the space manifests itself and creates a playful yet elegant mood. This is accomplished through colors, where red instigates activeness and increased pulse, blue projects tranquility, and yellow brings joy and cheerfulness. Vertical and horizontal compositions are also utilized within the space, creating harmonized and unified zones within the space. The space layout and furniture lining are placed based on a developed grid system. These grids create and exaggerate various planes through color. To become locally relevant, the design incorporates features of Qatari textile patterns and Qatari tangible art inspired culture that complements the De Stijl style. This allows for a holistic space that merges the Qatari style into the De Stijl style.

PERSPECTIVES

The Lounge Entertainment area is an inclusive space contains a TV, comfortable sofas, and significant design features. The De Stijl color coordination and signature squares are imprinted on the wall, followed by strips of the primary colors, red, yellow, and blue. They connect the ceiling and wall. Whilst the Qatari traditional pattern is imprinted on the floor. The floor detailing connects the entire space, extending all the way from the lounge to the dining area.

Another extension of sorts is the kitchen counter that elongates all the way to create another seating area (as shown in the left image). This space is with a lower ceiling to create a system of hierarchy in the space. The Kitchen itself is also indented by a red wall (as shown in the above image). This gives an elegant intricacy to the space and creates an inward bubble surrounding the kitchen, keeping it away from the main route of circulation and movement. Lastly, the dining table is minimal, modern, clean, and easy to manage.
